Lent with St Oscar Romero: Rosary & Resources

This Lent, we invite you to deepen your commitment to charity and social justice by joining us for the Romero Rosary each Friday at 5pm at St George’s Cathedral.

The Rosary is prayed at the National Shrine of Oscar Romero which our Cathedral is blessed to have. St Oscar was a modern martyr who gave his life standing with the poor and speaking out against injustice. His life reminds us that prayer sustains action – our faith calls us to live out those Gospel values of charity and love.

Archbishop John personally led the Rosary on Ash Wednesday, and he’ll do so again on Friday 6th March and Friday 27th March. On the other Fridays of Lent, the Cathedral clergy will lead the Rosary, followed by the Stations of the Cross at 6pm.

For those involved in parish outreach, foodbanks, community projects and the like, the Romero Rosary offers a powerful Lenten rhythm. As we fast and serve this Lent, we do so asking the Lord Jesus to funnel contemplation into action.

Please find a promotional poster for your parish porch here.

To find out more about the Romero Rosary, have a look at this book written by Archbishop John Wilson. We’re delighted to be promoting this new resource along with some Lenten resources created by Caritas Brentwood, which you can find here. We’d particularly recommend using their Lenten Giving Calendar. If you used our Advent Giving Calendar in December, it’ll be a tried and tested way of putting your faith into action through acts of charity!
