Towards the end of June, we teamed up with UK Welcomes Refugees to host a joyful community picnic in Beddington Park. The event brought together members of the Hong Kong community living in Sutton with others from across the local area, offering an opportunity to share stories, enjoy good food, and build new friendships in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
It was a day full of warmth — not just from the sunshine, but from the many conversations and cultural exchanges that took place. People shared food and found common ground in their experiences of settling into a new community. Whether reconnecting with old friends or meeting someone new for the first time, there was a real sense of belonging and togetherness.
This picnic is just one part of our ongoing collaboration with UK Welcomes Refugees in the Sutton deanery, as we work to support newcomers and strengthen community ties. Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce a brand-new initiative: the Community World Café, launching soon in Wallington.
Hosted by St Elphege’s and St Paul’s Roundshaw, the café will create a warm, welcoming space where newcomers (including recent arrivals from Hong Kong) and long-standing local residents can connect, swap stories, and build meaningful friendships.
Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for updates on the café launch and other community events. We look forward to welcoming you!
